Note that there is no hours-of-work requirement.<\/p>\n<p>Once an employee meets eligibility, <strong>enrollment is required<\/strong>. There is <strong>no option to waive<\/strong> even if the employee has access to other pension or benefits plans. If the employee has additional plans (e.g., through their spouse), benefits will be coordinated.<\/p>\n<p>The following schedule will be used to calculate eligibility:[\/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTVCdGFibGUlMjBpZCUzRDM1JTIwJTJGJTVE[\/vc_raw_html][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Date of Eligibility&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%23005c84&#8243; google_fonts=&#8221;font_family:Domine%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1701280693346{margin-bottom: 0px !important;border-bottom-width: 0px !important;padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 0px !important;}&#8221; el_class=&#8221;enews-h3&#8243;][vc_column_text]The enrollment date is the first day eligibility is met. <strong>There is no waiting period.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-MsoBodyText\">Specifically, an employee must join the Plan on their <strong>date of hire<\/strong> if their monthly Salary is equal to or greater than <strong>25% of one-twelfth (1\/12<sup>th<\/sup>) of the YMPE<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-MsoBodyText\">Futhermore, an employee who is not eligible to join the Plan on their date of hire must join the Plan on the first day of the month following the month that their monthly salary becomes equal to or greater than 25% of one-twelfth (1\/12<sup>th<\/sup>) of the YMPE.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Single or Family?&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%23005c84&#8243; google_fonts=&#8221;font_family:Domine%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1701281036097{margin-bottom: 0px !important;border-bottom-width: 0px !important;padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 0px !important;}&#8221; el_class=&#8221;enews-h3&#8243;][vc_column_text]The Health Module insurer <strong>requires that employees enroll in their \u2018true\u2019 family status<\/strong>. If the employee has a spouse or children, they must be enrolled in a Family plan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spouse<\/strong>: The person to whom you are legally married, OR a person continuously living with you in a role like that of a marriage partner for at least one year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dependent Child<\/strong>: your natural or legally adopted child, (dependent on you or your spouse for financial support), or step child, who is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>unmarried<\/li>\n<li>under age 21, or under age 25 and a full-time student<\/li>\n<li>not employed on a full-time basis<\/li>\n<li>and not eligible for insurance as an employee under this or any other group benefit program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/toggle][toggle color=&#8221;Default&#8221; heading_tag=&#8221;default&#8221; heading_tag_functionality=&#8221;default&#8221; title=&#8221;Transfer Between Employers and Maintaining Elgibility&#8221;][vc_column_text]\n<h4>ELCIC Pension Plan<\/h4>\n<p>There is no minimum salary or other criteria to maintain membership in the pension plan once an employee has an ELCIC pension plan account. Pension contributions should be made from any and all participating employers.<\/p>\n<h4>ELCIC Group Benefits Plan<\/h4>\n<p>Eligibility must be met and maintained to continue benefits coverage in any ongoing position and for each new employer or second employer if members are employed by two or more employers.<\/p>\n<p>Note that when moving between ELCIC employers, the health and dental module that a member is enrolled in will continue with the new employer, as long as eligibility is maintained.[\/vc_column_text][\/toggle][toggle color=&#8221;Default&#8221; heading_tag=&#8221;default&#8221; heading_tag_functionality=&#8221;default&#8221; title=&#8221;Completing Forms&#8221;][vc_column_text]All forms required for enrollment can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/elcicgsi.ca\/?page_id=15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Forms and Worksheets page of this website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Please complete and return to the GSI office. We accept scanned form by email or copies can be mailed by post.[\/vc_column_text][\/toggle][toggle color=&#8221;Default&#8221; heading_tag=&#8221;default&#8221; heading_tag_functionality=&#8221;default&#8221; title=&#8221;New to Canada&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;]If your employee is new to Canada, everything in this &#8216;new employee&#8217; section applies with a couple of twists as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Health Care benefits provided in the group plan are a second payer to the government health program, therefore make sure your employee applies for provincial health coverage first and the group plan will begin when the provincial coverage becomes effective (typically 3 months after arrival). All other benefits will start immediately.<\/li>\n<li>If your employee has a spouse and\/or child(ren), coverage for them will begin once the employee is enrolled and they are living in Canada as well.<\/li>\n<li>Contributions to the pension plan can begin as soon as the employee has a social insurance number.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/toggle][toggle color=&#8221;Default&#8221; heading_tag=&#8221;default&#8221; heading_tag_functionality=&#8221;default&#8221; title=&#8221;Late Entry&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;]Employees must join the pension and group benefits plans from the date of eligibility.\u00a0It is important to enroll and submit all the documentation of enrollment on a timely basis, as soon as eligible.<\/p>\n<p>If for some reason an employee is missed, pension contributions are required back to date of eligibility and must be made until the employee is \u2018caught up\u2019 to where they would have been had they enrolled at date of eligibility.<\/p>\n<p>These contributions are subject to the annual maximum of 18%.\u00a0 Premiums for benefits also must be submitted back to date of eligibility for all late enrollments.[\/vc_column_text][\/toggle][\/toggles][divider line_type=&#8221;No Line&#8221; custom_height=&#8221;40&#8243;][vc_text_separator title=&#8221;Employee&#8217;s Personal Life Events&#8221;][toggles style=&#8221;default&#8221; border_radius=&#8221;none&#8221;][toggle color=&#8221;Default&#8221; heading_tag=&#8221;default&#8221; heading_tag_functionality=&#8221;default&#8221; title=&#8221;Getting Married&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;]If your employee gets married (or has a common-law partner) please ask them to complete and submit a <a href=\"https:\/\/elcicgsi.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Change-in-Marital-Status.pdf\">change in marital status<\/a> form. The insurance carriers require that employees enroll in their \u2018true\u2019 family status.&nbsp; Therefore members having Health Care benefits will have to change from single to family coverage.&nbsp; If their spouse is also working and has a health plan, then benefits will be coordinated.<\/p>\n<p>As a change in marital status is a life event, the member may chose to change the module they are enrolled in.<\/p>\n<p>Please meet with your employee to discuss the changes and determine the funding for any changes. Then notify GSI so that that premiums can be adjusted and any claims are processed correctly.<\/p>\n<p>Note that employee is also entitled to dependent life insurance and this will affect your taxable benefit calculation. If the spouse\u2019s benefits subsequently change, the above choices will have to be revisited and enrollment information may have to be updated.[\/vc_column_text][\/toggle][toggle color=&#8221;Default&#8221; heading_tag=&#8221;default&#8221; heading_tag_functionality=&#8221;default&#8221; title=&#8221;Reaching Age 65&#8243;][vc_column_text]If your employee continues to work past age 65 you should be aware of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Health Care benefits will continue as long as the member continues to be actively employed and meets the minimum eligibility<\/li>\n<li>Life Plus benefits will end; premium is pro-rated in the final month to the 65th birthday date.<\/li>\n<li>Pension Plan contributions continue as long as the member is actively employed until age 71.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/toggle][toggle color=&#8221;Default&#8221; heading_tag=&#8221;default&#8221; heading_tag_functionality=&#8221;default&#8221; title=&#8221;Death of Employee or Someone in Their Family&#8221;][vc_column_text]\n<h4>Employee<\/h4>\n<p>Please notify GSI and we will communicate with their executor or beneficiaries.<\/p>\n<h4>Family member of employee<\/h4>\n<p>Please advise your employee to contact GSI in order to update and process any requirements, such as: \u00a0claims to make, a change in premiums and\/or benefit coverage and\/or a change to dependent or beneficiary information. Please refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/elcicgsi.ca\/?page_id=1912\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">compensation guidelines<\/a> for information on bereavement leaves.[\/vc_column_text][\/toggle][\/toggles][divider line_type=&#8221;No Line&#8221; custom_height=&#8221;40&#8243;][vc_text_separator title=&#8221;Leaves&#8221;][toggles style=&#8221;default&#8221; border_radius=&#8221;none&#8221;][toggle color=&#8221;Default&#8221; heading_tag=&#8221;default&#8221; heading_tag_functionality=&#8221;default&#8221; title=&#8221;Maternity and\/or Parental Leave&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;]Supplemental income will be provided to plan members who are receiving employment insurance for maternity and\/or parental benefits as per the <a href=\"https:\/\/elcicgsi.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Parental-Leave-Policy-revised-2018.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Parental Leave Policy<\/a>\u00a0approved by National Church Council (latest revision Sept 2018)<\/p>\n<p>The process is as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>employer will provide GSI with documents confirming employee approved for employment insurance<\/li>\n<li>employer will pay employee the supplemental pay benefit as per policy<\/li>\n<li>employer will submit a reimbursement request each month to GSI for the supplemental pay<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>i.e. the employee will remain on the payroll of the congregation and will receive a T4 from the congregation\/employer.
