Record-Keeping and Vacation / Sick Time

As the employer, it is important to maintain accurate records of employee vacation and sick time. This information is necessary when a member terminates employment, as unused vacation pay must be paid out. Vacation pay is considered pensionable, and Life Plus contributions must also be remitted on it. Additionally, tracking vacation time helps correctly determine whether an employee has any unused days at the end of the year.

Sick time records are also critical for short-term disability (STD) applications. When a member applies for STD, there is a two-week waiting period (10 working days) during which sick time is used. If the employee does not have enough sick time to cover this period, those days will be considered unpaid.

The vacation and sick time policy can be found on GSI’s website, here:

Pre-Authorized Debit

GSI offers pre-authorized debit as a form of payment for the monthly invoices.  If your congregation/organization has not yet signed up but would like to, please complete the form found on GSI’s website

Invoices are emailed on the second last Tuesday of the month, which provides time to review and make any changes. The pre-authorized debit is taken on the 15th of the following month; if that falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment will be the next business day.

2024 Pension Plan Annual Report

This year’s Pension Annual Report follows the theme of keys.

Highlights include updated Plan Member demographics, a greeting from President/Board Chair Rev. Dr. Gordon Jensen, reviews of ELCIC Pension Plan finances and investments, and a list of current staff, Board Directors, and contractors.

The ELCIC Pension Plan is a key to open the door to financial wellness in retirement. There may be multiple sets of keys to get you there, but the ELCIC Pension Plan is likely the most significant one if you’ve spent most of your career within the ELCIC. –Gordon Jensen
